Criminal Cases in the Chelan County Courts
Chelan County Superior Court is the general-jurisdiction court for felony trials and juvenile matters. The elected County Clerk keeps its criminal case files, including pleadings, orders, judgments, register-of-actions entries, and legal financial obligations. The courthouse and clerk are closely linked, yet the public contacts differ: the court operates at 401 Washington Street, while the Clerk's public counter is at 350 Orondo Avenue, Suite 501, in Wenatchee.
Chelan County District Court hears misdemeanors and gross misdemeanors. Its published examples include DUI, assault, theft, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, animal cruelty, and unlawful hunting or fishing. It also handles matters that otherwise would be municipal cases for Wenatchee, Leavenworth, Cashmere, and Chelan. A Wenatchee Violations Bureau exists at 140 South Mission Street, so confirm the filing court before requesting a record. The arresting agency alone does not settle which court received the charge.
Search Chelan County Court Cases

Enter a case number or a party name in Last, First order, then narrow the location to Chelan County Superior Court and the case type to criminal. Anonymous users can view public case information but cannot open document images. Wildcards are limited to registered users, and a CAPTCHA is required.

This court-level split matters because Odyssey does not contain District or municipal court records. Use Washington Courts Case Search or contact the court of record when the case is not a Superior Court filing.
How to Search Case Records
Start with the charge level and a reliable identifier. A case number is best. A full name can work, but common names and spelling variants may produce several candidates. Compare the court, filing date, case number, and case type before treating any result as the right file. Chelan County Court Record Timeline
The Clerk states that Chelan County criminal cases from 1900 forward are available through its records system. The way a file can be viewed changes with age. Cases and documents filed since January 1, 1996 have computer images. Older items or material that is not online may require the clerk-office computer or microfiche. An empty document view does not mean that no court case exists.
The Chelan Clerk document portal is the official county path for Superior Court documents.
Use the portal for available images, then ask the fifth-floor Clerk counter about archived records, access roles, or certification. Registered document access is individually approved, and the official Odyssey guide warns that approval can take up to 14 business days. That subscription route is different from an ordinary request for a copy at the counter.
What the Case File Shows
A Chelan County criminal case file is organized around a court case, not around a person's whole history. Read the header first, then move through the charging instrument, docket events, hearings, and final orders. The initial allegation may be amended. A hearing entry records that an event occurred, but it may not explain the outcome without the linked order or judgment.

Request Chelan County Court Records
For a District Court case, use the official Court Records Request form. It asks for the requester's name, telephone, mailing address, defendant name, date of birth, case number, signature, and printed name. The form lets the requester select a complaint or citation, judgment and sentence, plea agreement, no-contact order, stipulated continuance, petition or order, docket, or another identified document. Audio requests need the proceeding date, time, and case number.
District Court lists certified copies at $5 for the first page and $1 for each added page. Electronic-image copies are $0.25 per page, hard-copy-file copies are $0.50 per page, and CD reproduction is $20. Record-search labor starts at $15 per hour after the first hour. Fees can change, so confirm the total before ordering. For Superior Court, contact the Clerk at 509-667-6380 and state whether inspection, a plain copy, or a certified copy is needed.
Stages of a Criminal Case
A criminal matter may start with an arrest or summons, but the prosecutor decides what charge to file. The accused then appears in court, receives notice of the charge, and enters a plea at arraignment. Discovery, motion practice, and negotiations follow. The case may end by dismissal, a negotiated plea, or trial. A conviction leads to judgment and sentencing, and some cases continue into an appeal or later motion.

A docket can show a motion, continuance, or hearing without stating its full legal effect. Read the filed order. An amended charge replaces an earlier version, while a dismissal is not an acquittal. A vacated conviction requires a court order and is not the same as sealing every case document.

The right office depends on the case level. The Superior Court Clerk supplies filed pleadings, archived material, and certified copies. District Court supplies its own misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor files. A prosecutor's administrative record request is not a substitute for the court file, and a defense lawyer's confidential file is not a public records source.

Access & Restrictions
Court files are judicial records governed mainly by court rules, not ordinary agency processing under the Washington Public Records Act. General Rule 31 controls public access and protects specified personal identifiers. General Rule 15 governs sealing, destruction, and redaction. Sealing needs a legal basis and a narrowly tailored court order. Juvenile matters also have special limits under Title 13 RCW.
Protected victim and minor information, Social Security and account numbers, treatment records, and sealed material may be withheld or redacted. Anonymous portal users also receive less access than authorized registered roles. If a Chelan County case appears but its documents do not, contact the Clerk rather than inferring that the papers are secret or absent. If the entire result is missing, check the other court level, name spelling, filing period, and archived-record route.
A statewide WATCH result answers a different question. It summarizes qualifying Washington criminal-history information reported to the Washington State Patrol. It does not replace the Chelan County docket, and a name match does not positively identify a person. Fingerprints are the more reliable route for reviewing one's own statewide record.
